I wrote this post on another blog:
Today I seriously cleaned up my bathroom sink, its makes a big difference. And then hopefully it will be easy to keep up the cleanliness.
The kitchen sink has been easy lately - once its clean, its easy to keep clean.
Its rare, but every once in awhile I get the urge to clean my apartment / house / office / car, and when I'm done, I feel a heck of a lot better.
I wish I felt like cleaning on a more regular basis, as I do appreciate a well maintained apartment / house / office or car! I guess its just a matter of finding the time and energy.

I like to keep my house clean, and so its natural that I like to keep my computer(s) clean too. Both ebb and flow from disaster areas to clean as whistles, and a good strategies for maintaining some level of organization is to have a system.
I've heard of one good strategy for household organization: put things back after you use them. Sounds easy enough.
Couldn't they put it in a language I understand? And make it automatic? Like this:
dpkg -l | grep ^rc | awk '{ print $2}' | xargs dpkg -P
Explanation: the above command does the following - it lists all packages that have been installed on a Debian system, filters out the ones that are actively installed, leaving only the ones that have been un-installed, yet still retain configuration files. It then parses out the package name, and then purges all of them. All in one fell swoop! Aren't computers awesome??
I was caught a little off guard today when my roommate/boyfriend informed me that we had to clean the house tonight. Usually I'm the one gently prodding for things to get tidied up, but not today. I looked at him like he was crazy too. The house is pretty clean except for the clean laundry I haven't put away yet, the dirty dishes in the sink, and the copious amount of jackets and scarves draped through out the apartment, because I don't have a coat rack yet.
I'm a little bummed too. I had big plans of playing the new Penny Arcade game all night, and now he interrupts with tales of cleaning. I've vowed never to discourage him when he gets in this mode, so I'll help him. Despite my desire to play.
